Dear Members/Friends of our Gethsemane Church Family,
THEY WERE THERE – Judas, John, The Believing Thief, Mother Mary, Barabbas, Peter, Simon the Zealot, and of course, Jesus too – eye-witnesses to the fact that “God so loved the world” that first Holy Week and Easter “that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Since THEY WERE THERE, we have invited each of them to visit with us in first-person monologues at one of our mid-week and Holy Week services this year. In this fashion, your pastors and seminary students will share God’s Word with you as we follow our Servant Savior to His appointed suffering, death, and resurrection for us and for our salvation.
Instead of daily Lenten devotional calendar, a special Bible study will be inserted into each weekend bulletin beginning February 2-3, 2008—to help us prepare for these special hearings of God’s Word. Please call the church office (631-7331) ASAP if you would prefer to have them mailed or e-mailed directly to your home.
As in Advent, we’ll be again use the new Prayer and Preaching liturgy and let worshippers pick some of the hymns (LSB #418-456) We will again have Lenten Soup Suppers at noon only (expect for Ash Wednesday when there will be an evening soup supper at 5:30 p.m. Our LIFT Youth will be serving an Easter Breakfast between our Easter Sunday services. Can you believe it? Lent starts already on, February 6, 2008!
